Spring Into the Outdoors Again

getting outdoors

The advent of Spring typically tempts the masses to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather again. Outdoor activities that became difficult or impossible to enjoy when the temperature was frigid now come to mind, prompting many to make plans to get outside. Spring 2021 signals society coming off an entire year of dealing with COVID-19 and the harsh reality of having socially distanced for months, mostly indoors. While many people experience hesitancy at the idea of enjoying the outdoors again, hope springs eternal.

What’s Different This Year

A year ago, the coronavirus was just beginning to emerge, and people felt frightened and unsure of how to cope with new social distancing policies. Typical pastimes such as going shopping, visiting restaurants, and enjoying outdoor activities became verboten. We have all learned a lot from this past year, making it easier to make decisions.

The release of the COVID-19 vaccine has changed the game. While we are not out of the woods yet, we are miles ahead of where we were a year ago with new information and progress to prevent the spread of the virus.

Ways To Safely Re-enter Outdoor Life

One approach to getting outside again involves solo activities. If you wear a mask and maintain social distance with others, you can take advantage of warmer weather for walks, jogs, skateboarding, rollerblading, or any other physical activity that is best enjoyed outdoors.

If you have friends or family who also practice the usual pandemic safety measures, arrange group activities. You can go on a group bike ride or play baseball in an open park. Even if you prefer to do things like practice yoga or enjoy artistic hobbies at home, try doing them outside. Imagine practicing yoga in a park or painting in natural sunlight!

Visit the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website for safety guidelines while going outdoors.
